Pakayor or Karen live in Umphang more than 200 years, according to Laitungkuh village settle legend. Karen life along Meachun river is nearly the same as traditional life. Their lives are close and respect to nature that why forest here still alive.
They make daily life products, utensils or tools such as clothes, basket, tools etc by themselves. Traditional house is made from bamboo. Their foods are in their fields or in the forest.
Pakayor is Karen word meaning man or mankind. We suspect that they call themselves in this way because they against racism by declaring as mankind.
Activities
- Farming activities such as transplanting, mowing, harvesting etc
- Weaving
- Making basket from bamboo.
- Making yarn from cotton.
- Find vegetable, Fishing.
- etc.
Day1 Transfer to Umphang after breakfast. Lunch in Umphang then go to Thi Jor Chee Villages, Meachun sub district. Relaxing and walk around the village. After dinner, visit their house for making more understanding.
Day2 Karen life activities.
Day3 Karen life activities.
Day4 Karen life activities.
Day5 After Breakfast, go to visit Kuita Culture Museum that its established by a group of people in this villagers. Back to Umphang and Launch. After that go back to Measot.
Day6 After breakfast, start do rafting along Maeklong Stream for approx. 3 Hrs. on the way rafting, pass those interesting places such as, Thi lor jor Waterfalls, The natural Hot spa, The exiting Takohbi Cataract and many cliffs as well. Arrive Thasai in the late afternoon. Start trekking for approx. 4 Hrs. to Umphang Wild Sanctuary, Camping at the arranged zone, 800 Meters nearby the waterfalls. After dinner, enjoy campfire and relaxing.
Day7 After breakfast, Start trekking for approx. 30 minutes to Thi Lor Shu, The biggest waterfalls of South-East Asia and The 6th. Biggest of the world. Enjoy your swimming, fishing or being a naturalist as your prefer. Camping at the arranged zone, 800 Meters nearby the waterfalls. After lunch, Start the exiting Trekking deep into the jungle for approx.3 Hrs. to Kohtha, Karen Hill tribe villages After dinner, Enjoy studying their daily living with traditional, Culture etc. Which are all interesting. enjoy campfire and relaxing.
Day8 After breakfast, Start the exiting Elephant ridding or Trekking for approx. 3 Hrs. to Palata or Mae Lamung, Karen Hill tribe villages. Transfer back to Umphang. After lunch at Boonyaporn Garden House, going back to Maesot.
